"To Choriátiko": Rízos Rízos among 59 arrested for tax evasion exceeding €100 million

According to Newsit.gr, among the 59 arrested in the tax evasion case of the bakery chain "To Choriátiko" is Rízos Rízos — a former unionist at GENOP-DEI and close associate of owner Ángelos Giannakopoulos.

Rízos Rízos is alleged to have been the man with whom Giannakopoulos would consult before making decisions in the context of the case, which concerns financial matters worth many millions of euros.

The arrests became known on Sunday afternoon, 25 October 2026. Giannakopoulos is described as the alleged "mastermind" of the network. The large bakery chain is under investigation for tax evasion that, according to the authorities, exceeds €100 million.

Also at the centre of the investigation is an alleged network of companies. The authorities are examining financial transactions and possible violations, with frauds alleged to have caused damages of millions of euros to the state.

Reports indicate that Giannakopoulos had developed business activity across a broad range of catering and hospitality — from bakeries and restaurants to hotels, sun loungers and canteens.

It is worth noting that in 2008 Giannakopoulos had been arrested as the alleged mastermind of a large human trafficking network, following a coordinated operation by Security, the EYP and Interpol.
