Ángelos Giannakopoulos, owner of the "Choriátiko" bakery chain, was remanded in custody in connection with a case of fraud and tax evasion, according to Newsit.gr. Giannakopoulos was taken into detention following his appearance on Thursday.
During his appearance, he denied that he concealed taxable income, arguing that the amounts attributed to him derive from declarations that have already been filed.
On Friday, 30 October, his lawyer, Michális Dimitrakópoulos, made a statement in which he noted that his client "assumes his share of responsibility in the offences of tax evasion and insurance contribution evasion".
"As soon as there is a final corrective determination of taxes and insurance contributions by AADE and EFKA, he will liquidate his moveable and immoveable assets and will settle his debt in full to the State and to EFKA," Dimitrakópoulos emphasised in his statement.
