Arrest warrants issued for three suspects in Plaka explosion
According to In.gr, three individuals have been identified as allegedly causing the natural gas leak in the Plaka building, which led to the fatal explosion of 25 September 2026 — a tragedy that cost six people their lives. The competent judicial authorities in Athens have issued arrest warrants against them.
The suspects are two Greek citizens and one foreign national of Albanian nationality. According to the Fire Service, the three allegedly caused damage to the natural gas network pipes with the aim of stealing copper piping.
In video footage obtained by MEGA, a few hours before the explosion, the three individuals are recorded leaving the building carrying a piece of copper pipe.
34 days of investigation under strict secrecy
From the very first day, the investigation was conducted under conditions of strict secrecy. Officers from the Division for Combating Special Crimes (DAEE) worked daily, round the clock, for 34 days — from 25 September to 29 October 2026.
A crucial part of the investigation consisted of reconstructing the scene of the explosion: systematic documentation of the position and relationship between findings, as well as reconstruction of the sequence of events.
The investigation combined analysis of audiovisual material, lifting of communications confidentiality, and systematic evaluation of evidence collected from the site.
Scientific documentation from National Technical University
Particular weight was given to scientific substantiation of the case. The DAEE collaborated with appointed expert witnesses — electrical engineers and a chemist — as well as with the metallography laboratory of the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Technology of the National Technical University of Athens.
The combined evaluation of scientific and investigative findings strengthened the substantiation of the conclusions and led to the identification of the suspects.
