Liolios and Mavragánis remanded in custody in the fixed basketball matches case

According to In.gr, two further defendants in the fixed basketball matches case have been remanded in custody following a unanimous decision by the examining magistrate and prosecutor.

The former president of the Basketball Federation Vangelis Liolios denied any involvement in match-fixing, but failed to convince the judicial authorities. The examining magistrate and prosecutor unanimously decided to remand him in custody.

The same treatment was imposed on businessman Mavragánis, who is reported to have been Liolios's close associate. With today's development, all three of the first defendants who have testified have been treated in the same way by the courts.

Attention now turns to the last three of six defendants overall for whom arrest warrants were issued following the conclusion of the sports prosecutor's investigation. These are one active referee and two former basketball referees, who are to testify tomorrow whilst also denying any involvement in the case.

The investigating procedure is in full progress. According to information from competent sources, in the coming days other individuals will appear before the court of the former Evelpidon Academy as defendants, a fact which means the list is expected to expand.

In parallel, with considerable interest being shown, testimony is awaited from individuals directly affected by the acts of the defendants who will be called as witnesses. Among these, the former international player and coach Panagiotis Gianakis has declared his intention to appear in support of the prosecution.
