Match-fixing scandal in basketball: Liolios and Mavraganis deny allegations
The testimonies of the two accused in connection with match manipulation in Greek basketball have concluded. An investigating magistrate and public prosecutor will now decide on their criminal treatment.

Liolios-Mavraganis testimonies: "Not guilty", say the two accused in basketball scandal
The testimonies of resigned Basketball Federation president Evangelos Liolios and businessman Giorgos Mavraganis have been completed as part of the investigation into the match-fixing scandal in Greek basketball. According to To Vima, an investigating magistrate and public prosecutor now have all the evidence in their hands and will decide on their criminal treatment.
Testimonies of different duration
Liolios's testimony lasted approximately three and a half hours, whilst that of Mavraganis was brief — less than an hour. Both, according to reports, denied all allegations against them: match manipulation, payments to players from rival teams and manipulation of referees with the aim of fixing matches.
Liolios's claim: political conspiracy
Specifically, Evangelos Liolios reportedly argued that the allegations against him were aimed exclusively at removing him from the presidency of the Federation. According to the same sources, he cited his financial records as proof of innocence and submitted documents from four tax inspections carried out over the past decade, with no irregularities noted against him.
Latest inspection in 2025
According to the same reports, the most recent of these inspections was conducted in 2025 and covered the financial years 2019-2020. His entire financial situation was examined as part of this: his personal assets, his Promitheas team and his business. Bank safes were also checked, as well as accounts in banks within and outside Greece. Nothing noteworthy was found in any of these, according to the same sources.
