Threats and extortion in Zagreb: police locate suspect despite hidden identity
Zagreb police have detained a 46-year-old man suspected of attempting to extort €300,000 from a 38-year-old, to whom he allegedly made threats directed at both him and members of his family, reports Večernji list.
According to police information, the suspect sent the victim multiple threatening messages on 29 October in which he demanded that €300,000 be prepared and that the victim await further instructions on how to hand over the money. The identity of the sender was initially unknown, and the 38-year-old man, disturbed and fearful for his own safety and that of his loved ones, contacted the police.
The suspect continued to send threatening messages in the days that followed in order to increase pressure on the victim. He used various mobile devices and multiple SIM cards in an attempt to cover his tracks and avoid detection.
Despite these precautions, investigators were able to locate, identify and arrest him. After the completion of the criminal investigation, the 46-year-old was handed over to a detention supervisor, and a special report was submitted to the Municipal Criminal State Attorney's Office in Zagreb.
