Mayor of Rešetari released from custody, resigns from office

Zlatko Aga, mayor of Rešetari Municipality, has been released after being arrested on Thursday in a joint operation by USKOK and the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO), Index.hr reported. Aga has also submitted his resignation from his position as mayor.

The investigation concerns the energy renovation of a community centre in Adžamovci, a project financed with €350,000 from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. According to unofficial information obtained earlier by Index.hr, investigators suspect that Aga favoured certain companies in the award of contracts, and that in return his private expenses were covered.

In addition to Aga, three other individuals are suspected in this strand of the investigation according to the same sources: Hrvoje Moćan from Expert gradnja, Mario Dujić from Dujić instalacije, and Mario Đurić from MD projekti.

EPPO has confirmed that it is conducting urgent investigative measures in an investigation into possible abuse of position and authority related to funds from the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism and the state budget. USKOK is simultaneously conducting measures as part of a national investigation.

Aga has served as mayor of Rešetari since 2009 and won a new term in last year's local elections. EPPO recalls that all persons are presumed innocent until their guilt is established by a final judgment.
