Split court rejects remand for Torcida secretary

Split County Court has decided that Ivan Rinčić, secretary of the supporters' group Torcida, will remain free under protective measures, according to reports citing information from Večernji list. Rinčić is suspected of making threats against eleven journalists and one political analyst.

According to police allegations, Rinčić published a collage of photographs of journalists and an analyst on social media on 18 October 2026, accompanied by text containing direct threats, with the intention of intimidating and harassing them because of their professional work. Police arrested him last Friday around 5 p.m. Searches of his person, his home and moveable property were conducted on the basis of a court order, but no items related to the criminal offences with which he is charged were found.

Police filed a criminal complaint against Rinčić with the Municipal State Attorney's Office in Split. For threats against journalists connected with their professional work, a prison sentence of between six months and five years is provided for.

After questioning on Saturday afternoon, the deputy municipal state attorney released Rinčić without charges with an obligation to report to police twice weekly. The State Attorney's Office subsequently changed this decision — assessing that there was a risk of reoffending, it submitted a proposal to court for the imposition of remand. The court did not accept this proposal: the judge decided that Rinčić remains free, but with an obligation to report to police once weekly.

Rinčić, a Croatian citizen born in 1997, took up the position of chief secretary of Torcida in 2023, elected together with then-president Ante Stipetić Raba. That same year he previously turned himself in to police for participation in a parade before a Hajduk and Ajax match, and he also became a member of the Board of Management of the association Naš Hajduk, together with a member of Torcida's Presidency, Lucas Marino Tomas.
