Budapest police have arrested a 30-year-old man who collected human body parts from abandoned cemeteries and his workplace at a hospital, which he stored at home and at work.

Hungary's National Investigation Bureau arrested a 30-year-old man in Budapest on 17 June who is suspected of collecting human body parts from abandoned cemeteries and his workplace at a hospital.
According to a police statement on Tuesday, the man worked as a hospital orderly. Based on investigators' information, he stored the body parts both at his workplace and at home. A search of his flat was conducted, where officers seized skulls, a complete lower leg, a hand, and a human face reconstruction made from facial skin. Further bones were found in a suitcase.
A heart was also discovered in a preserving jar, the origin of which—human or animal—the police are still investigating.
During interrogation, the man admitted to collecting the body parts. He claimed that he has a particular attraction to human remains and that he made food from such items, which he consumed.
In its statement, the police wrote that the man "has a passionate interest in anatomy and pathology and enjoys dissecting animals". It is suspected that he obtained the body parts through his hospital work and through grave robberies at abandoned cemeteries in Slovakia and Hungary.
Investigators seized the man's computer, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and SIM and data cards. The seized body parts are being examined by forensic experts. The police added that the range of offences could later be expanded once the origin of all the body parts is established.
The man is being held on suspicion of unlawful use of human bodies.
