Hungarian police have detained a 27-year-old Jordanian man in Budapest. According to the charges, he unlawfully obtained bank card details belonging to an American film star and then spent more than half a million euros from the account.

The investigation began this year when an American bank contacted the domestic representation of international services. Unauthorised payments were made from the customer's account. It later became clear that the bank account was linked to Johnny Depp. The suspicious money movements allegedly took place from early 2024 to late 2025.

According to reports from British tabloid The Sun, the actor did not notice the abuse for more than two years. The case only came to light when the financial institution flagged the transactions as suspicious and launched an investigation.

Authorities are examining a total of 308 money transfers, with a combined value exceeding 536,000 pounds, or roughly 619,000 euros. Investigators identified the suspect through analysis of internet protocol addresses, electronic mail and a Hungarian telephone number. These details were allegedly used for online purchases and accommodation bookings.

The detained man denies all criminal charges, but the court nonetheless ordered his continued detention. The investigative authorities continue to work on determining how the card details came into the hands of unauthorised persons.

In recent times, Depp has visited Budapest on several occasions for film shoots, and has also visited the Hungarian capital multiple times during his leisure time.
