On Thursday, the military panel of Győr District Court delivered its verdict in a case involving the city's former police chief, three family members, a retired police colonel, and leaders of a local private security company, according to 24.hu.
The now-concluded proceedings were separate from the bribery case in which the former captain and the county deputy police chief allegedly cooperated with the region's largest security company. According to the prosecution, this new case was also not connected to the crime that the police leader allegedly covered up.
In the latter instance, in summer 2023, the apartment of a senior doctor at a Győr hospital was broken into. Officers who arrived found twenty Makarov rounds in his safe, which he was not authorised to keep. The captain ordered his subordinates to destroy photographs of the ammunition, not to seize the munition, and not to mention the incident in the report. He intended to shield the doctor from prosecution. The manipulation was discovered through telephone wiretapping.
Thursday's verdict announcement, however, closed another chapter: the one that unfolded following the police chief's detention in September 2023.
