Hungarian police have taken into custody a 30-year-old man from Budapest who is suspected of collecting human remains from abandoned cemeteries and his hospital workplace, according to a report by Global News.
According to a statement from the National Investigation Bureau, various human remains were found in the man's home during the investigation. A prepared human face, facial skin, bones stored in a suitcase, a complete lower leg, brain, hand, head, skulls and a heart stored in a glass container were discovered. The origin of the latter body part is still being investigated to determine whether it is of human or animal origin.
During questioning, the suspect stated that he was particularly drawn to human body parts, from which he prepared food for himself and consumed them in various ways.
According to police, the man had a keen interest in anatomy and pathology, and enjoyed dissecting animals. He allegedly obtained the body parts from corpses exhumed from abandoned cemeteries in Slovakia and Hungary, as well as through his hospital work.
Investigators seized the man's computers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, SIM cards and data cards. The man is being held on suspicion of illegal use of human corpses.
