Győr mayor questioned as complainant in media company affair

The investigative authority of Veszprém County questioned Bence Pintér, the city leader of Győr, as a witness in a criminal case on Monday – the mayor informed his followers on social media, as reported by HVG.

The investigation concerns the activities of Győr+Média Zrt. The city's chief executive approached the police because he had received information suggesting that the communications company owned by the local authority spent taxpayers' money on non-existent employment relationships. The authority is conducting proceedings on suspicion of breach of trust.

According to Pintér's account, the questioning lasted several hours. He handed over all documents to the investigators and will share the results of further official investigations with them as well. The city leader emphasised that the media company ended this year with a loss of 328 million forints.

During the audit of the company, numerous suspicious circumstances came to light. The company, previously thought to be smaller, actually maintained 93 employees, which according to the mayor was an unjustifiably high headcount. Upon examination of the contracts, it emerged that relatives and acquaintances of Fidesz representatives appeared on the list of clients. Relatives of the former mayor, his former associates and several friends also received contracts. Part of the payments went to Mátyás Kohán, the head of the Mandiner portal.

Due to financial difficulties, the media company is closing all its channels.
