Fradiváros investment: police investigate allegations of breach of fiduciary duty
A Ferencváros supporter approached the State Audit Office over the 25 billion forint Fradiváros project; the State Audit Office forwarded the matter to the police.
Fradiváros project complaint referred to police
The Budapest 9th District Police Headquarters is investigating a submission filed by a Ferencváros supporter with the State Audit Office regarding the Fradiváros investment in Népliget – according to 24.hu.
The leader of the Facebook community "Ferenczvárosi C közép" formally approached the State Audit Office on 6 June. In his submission, he asked the organisation to examine whether the accounting for the 25 billion forint of public funds used to finance the project complies with the relevant legislation and support conditions. According to the supporter's wording, the investment "simply did NOT take place".
Attached to his letter was an excerpt from Ferencváros's balance sheet supplement, which contains an entry dated 6 May 2026: at that time, the Defence Ministry, which was responsible for sports matters, had not accepted the club's annual accounting relating to state support for sports purposes in either 2017 or 2019. The date is noteworthy because the document was created after the election but before the formation of the Tisza government. One day later, the last call issued under the Orbán government appeared in the Hungarian Official Gazette, in which Viktor Orbán essentially asked acting Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky to do everything possible, if requested, to reschedule Fradiváros's obligations to the state.
A week after receiving the submission, the State Audit Office made a decision on the matter and informed the person who filed it that it had forwarded the case to the police on suspicion of the crime of breach of fiduciary duty. In its letter, the State Audit Office specifically named the Budapest 9th District Police Headquarters as the authority with jurisdiction to conduct the investigation.
The Budapest Police Headquarters confirmed to 444 that the report had been received, but did not provide further details.
