The Bonyhád Police Headquarters has concluded the investigation into a series of online fraud – according to a report from Police.hu.
According to the allegations, a trio from Békéscsaba offered mobile phones, hair straighteners and garden pavilions for sale on various internet auction sites. Buyers were required to transfer the purchase price in advance, but the ordered goods never arrived and the sellers became unreachable.
During the investigation, it emerged that the fraudsters used a total of 23 bank accounts to collect money. They opened some of these themselves, while others were provided by 11 collaborators, who used their account numbers to facilitate the fund transfers. In addition to their own profiles, the fraudsters also created fake user accounts for the advertisements.
Police nationwide identified 410 victims. The three main suspects – a 20-year-old woman, her partner and a relative – obtained more than 11 million forints through organised fraud.
Investigators closed the case in recent days and sent the files to the prosecutor's office with a recommendation to press charges. Police warn that when shopping online, always check the seller's reliability and be suspicious if something seems too good to be true.
