A forty-nine-year-old man has been sentenced to fifteen years' imprisonment on a final basis for fatally attacking his wife in Somogy County last spring, according to 24.hu.
P. Csaba struck Anita repeatedly, with whom he had two children. He used a pickaxe and a knife in the fatal assault.
The couple were no strangers to regular drinking and quarrelling. They had previously assaulted each other on multiple occasions. On the day of the tragedy, they had consumed alcohol in the morning before becoming involved in a heated confrontation. During the argument, the woman struck her husband in the face and then went outside into the yard.
The husband followed her and knocked her down. He kicked and stamped on the woman lying on the ground, ultimately attacking her with tools and a blade. He then drove away in a vehicle. The victim died from her injuries at the scene.
Police apprehended the perpetrator quickly. The man denied that he intended to kill his wife. He claimed that he loved her and that she provoked him in quarrels arising from jealousy, which caused him to lose self-control.
Kaposvár Circuit Court sentenced him to fifteen years' imprisonment at first instance for aggravated murder, without conditional release. Pécs Court of Appeal upheld the decision unchanged at second instance.
