Three men were brought back over the course of three days from various countries where they had sought refuge from Hungarian justice – according to a report on Police.hu.
First, a man of Eastern European nationality was arrested overseas. The man had been sentenced to two and a half years for human trafficking, but had not begun serving his sentence. Thanks to cooperation between the American and Hungarian Interpol offices, he was successfully found and transported back on 4 June.
The next day, on 5 June, a man from the Middle East was arrested in the Lebanese capital. He too was wanted for the illegal transportation of people. He attempted to disappear under multiple false identities, but international data exchange made it possible to identify and apprehend him.
In the third case, a Hungarian fraudster attempted to hide in the Gulf country. The man had been sentenced to three years imprisonment for racketeering offences, but fled abroad to avoid serving his sentence. Following joint efforts by Pest County police, the special investigation office and the international coordination centre, he was taken into custody in Dubai and arrived back on 6 June.
The three operations demonstrate that Hungarian law enforcement agencies work effectively with their foreign partners in tracking down fugitives.
