Hungarian police announced on Tuesday that they have launched an investigation into a 30-year-old hospital porter who is suspected of collecting and storing human body parts in his flat for personal consumption.

The alleged cannibal case occurred in Budapest. Police conducted a search at the man's home, where they seized human bones, an entire tibia, the back of a hand, numerous skulls and a preserved human face.

During interrogation, the man claimed that he was drawn to human body parts and had already cooked and consumed some of them. According to reports, he collected human remains from his workplace and exhumed others from cemeteries in Hungary and neighbouring Slovakia.

The suspect openly spoke to family members and friends about his morbid attraction and even took photographs of his "collection", which police also seized.

The man, whose job involved transporting patients to hospital, was taken into custody on 17 June and is under court supervision. The prosecution is investigating the case for disturbing the peace of the dead.
