Woman ended former partner's life on Danubius Street with her children present
In spring 2023, a Veszprém resident, Sz. Eszter Melinda, delivered a fatal knife wound to her former partner in Budapest's 13th district, in a residential building on Danubius Street. She committed the crime in the presence of her two-year-old twin pair, who watched the events unfold with dummies in their mouths.
At the public court hearing, the deceased's brother spoke emotionally to journalists. In his view, the defendant should have been behind bars long ago, as the evidence – including the knife – clearly proves the deed. He also expressed his anger that the defendant arrived at the trial not in handcuffs, but merely with an electronic ankle monitor, and can defend herself at liberty.
The suspect, who works at a dental surgery, arrived at the Budapest Court of Appeal with a neat appearance, accompanied by relatives and acquaintances. Shortly afterwards, the victim's mother and brother also appeared in the deceased's company. The two groups waited at different points along the corridor, and the tension between them was palpable in the air.
According to the relatives, it is unjust that someone who extinguished another person's life can remain at home for years, whilst the victim can never return.
