Police car set alight in Gödöllő, suspect detained
On the evening of 2 June, a man with multiple prior convictions poured an accelerant fluid onto one of the service vehicles in front of Gödöllő police headquarters and then set it alight. The vehicle was completely destroyed, according to a report by 24.hu.
The fire did not spread to the other parked cars or the building, as police and firefighters intervened in time. However, there was a clear risk of the flames spreading further.
The Budakörnyék District Prosecution Service requested the detention of the perpetrator for endangering public safety. In a ruling on Friday, the court remanded the suspect in custody for one month. The man remained silent during the hearing. The prosecutor accepted the decision, but the defendant and his counsel appealed for a lighter measure of restraint.
Detention was deemed justified due to the risk of flight, concealment, commission of further offences, and destruction of evidence.
