A banned, intoxicated driver fled from police for ten minutes in Budapest before being stopped in the Castle District, where he was struck and kicked by multiple officers when apprehended.

On Wednesday evening, a 36-year-old man was arrested in the Buda Castle District for driving whilst intoxicated with a valid driving ban in place. The offender with a criminal record was to be stopped due to irregular driving, but he accelerated at the officers' signal and began to flee.
The ten-minute pursuit led across the Chain Bridge to Csónak Street in District I, where the fugitive first drove at two motorcycle officers, and then reversed into a service vehicle. The motorcyclists escaped the collision unscathed, but one of their colleagues travelling in the police car sustained minor injuries – according to a report by Telex.
Video footage recorded from a nearby balcony showed uniformed officers dragging the man from the vehicle, then repeatedly kicking and striking the handcuffed man lying on the ground.
The Central Investigation Prosecutor's Office is investigating the use of coercive measures in a separate case, as it emerged that the officers may have exceeded the legal limits. A separate case is being conducted against the fleeing driver for traffic violations and assault on a public official.
