On Wednesday morning, a 36-year-old intoxicated man struck several motorcycle police officers with his vehicle near Budapest's Castle District in Buda – according to Blikk.
The driver had previously been banned from getting behind the wheel. Despite this, he was driving whilst intoxicated. The pursuit began on Andrássy Street, continued across the Chain Bridge, and went on through the narrow streets of Buda. The man was finally stopped in a dead-end street. During the apprehension, several officers acted aggressively towards him, which had to be stopped by their colleagues.
The perpetrator reversed into a police vehicle in which three officers were present. Two managed to jump out, but the third sustained minor injuries. A resident nearby recorded the incident from their balcony. The driver claimed he was not the one driving.
The man, who had previously committed offences, was taken into custody on Friday on charges of assault on a public official and other counts. The Central Investigative Prosecutor's Office is simultaneously investigating whether the police officers acted lawfully.
