Slovak ATM bomber arrested in Budapest, extradition expected
A 28-year-old Slovak man suspected of multiple ATM bombings in Slovakia was arrested in an underground car park in Budapest. According to police.hu, authorities are in talks with foreign counterparts regarding his extradition.
Slovak ATM bomber arrested in Ferencváros
According to police.hu, as a result of a coordinated operation by the BRFK and the National Security Service, a 28-year-old Slovak citizen was arrested on 12 June in the underground car park of a residential building in Ferencváros, suspected in his home country of multiple robberies and bombings of cash dispensers.
The man exploded and robbed several ATMs in Slovakia in May 2026, then fled to Hungary by car and went into hiding in a Budapest property. Following analysis of alerts received from Slovak and Czech authorities, the BRFK Investigation Directorate and security officers of the National Security Service identified his location. The arrest was carried out with operational support from the TEK.
During the raid on the flat, numerous pieces of material evidence were seized: a mask, a headlamp, stolen number plates, a bulletproof vest, gloves and an airgun, as well as devices suitable for detonating explosives – including a timing device, radio remote controls and blasting caps.
A procedure was initiated against the man by the BRFK on suspicion of the crime of misuse of explosives or explosive materials. He was detained on the basis of a European arrest warrant. Since he committed no bombing offences in Hungary, authorities are in talks with the Slovak side regarding his extradition. The suspect had previously been repeatedly convicted for armed robberies and other serious crimes.
