A 16-year-old boy allegedly killed his 93-year-old great-grandmother in Budapest's ninth district; he pawned her jewellery, and a 15-year-old female accomplice was arrested for aiding and abetting.

On the evening of 13 June, a 93-year-old woman was found dead in her flat on Práter Street in the capital. According to investigation data, her great-grandson, a 16-year-old boy, carried out the attack – as reported by Blikk based on an article in Népszava.
According to police, the boy went to visit his relative with the aim of financial gain. When the elderly woman refused to hand over valuables, a struggle broke out. It is suspected that the boy struck her from behind and then stabbed the victim in the neck several times with a sharp object. A telephone and jewellery went missing from the flat.
During questioning, the boy gave a different account of events. He claimed that during an argument he pushed his great-grandmother, who fell, and that her earring fell out at that moment. According to him, it was an accident, not intentional murder.
Investigators quickly worked out who the perpetrator could be. The teenager was taken into custody. A 15-year-old girl, who allegedly helped sell the stolen goods at a pawn shop, was also arrested; proceedings were initiated against her for aiding and abetting.
The Budapest Chief Prosecutor's Office requested that the boy be remanded in custody. According to the charge, the victim was killed with premeditated intent for financial gain, at a particular disadvantage owing to her age, which left her barely able to defend herself. In the girl's case, home detention with electronic monitoring was requested for covering up the homicide.
