A 59-year-old man has been arrested in Hatvan after evading authorities since 2017. The court sentenced him to five and a half years imprisonment for budgetary fraud, but he disappeared before serving his sentence.

A 59-year-old man has been arrested in Hatvan who fled from the penal system nearly a decade ago. The Nyíregyháza court issued its legally binding judgment in April 2017, which imposed five years and six months' imprisonment for budgetary fraud committed in the form of an organised criminal group.
However, the man disappeared before beginning his sentence and has since been hiding in an unknown location. Through lengthy investigative work by investigators in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, they have managed to identify and apprehend him in recent days with the cooperation of the Hatvan Police Headquarters – reported Police.hu.
During the arrest, the convicted man attempted to identify himself as a Ukrainian national, but could not substantiate his claim with any documents. After the arrest, police took him to a penal institution, where he will begin serving his prison sentence.
At the time of arrest, he was only six months away from the expiry of the sentence. Had he managed to evade police for another six months, the sentence would no longer have been enforceable.
