The Gyula Court of Justice sentenced a local man to eleven years in prison and a ten-year ban from public office, having sexually abused his own minor child over an extended period – announced the Szeged Regional Prosecutor's Office, which was reported on by 24.hu.
The perpetrator was the sole carer of his daughter, and the abuse began after the victim's eighth birthday and continued for years. The court found the defendant guilty of the crime of continuing sexual assault. In addition to the custodial sentence, he was permanently barred from all activities involving minors.
The man and his legal representative filed an appeal, primarily requesting acquittal and secondarily seeking a lighter sentence. The regional prosecutor's office, however, sought to uphold the first-instance decision at the appellate forum.
According to the prosecution, the first-instance decision is sound, the legal qualification of the facts is correct, and the imposed sanctions are not excessive. The Szeged Court of Appeal will rule on the appeals with a final judgment.
