The customs authority's airport service notified the BRFK that suspicious shipments had arrived from abroad – according to Police.hu.
Investigators examined the packages and found twenty bags containing plant-derived material in five boxes. Laboratory testing established that the samples contained delta-THC, which is classified as a prohibited substance. The shipment weighed more than 11.6 kilogrammes.
The addressee of the shipments was a warehouse in Budapest's district X. Police kept the location under surveillance, and when two individuals collected the packages on 3 June, they were arrested shortly afterwards.
The suspects are a 35-year-old Asian citizen and a 20-year-old European national. During a house search at the younger man's residence, investigators found nearly five kilogrammes of plant material, four grammes of crystalline suspected powder, scales, mobile phones and a dozen SIM cards. The older man had almost 250,000 forints in cash and a telephone in his pocket.
According to the authorities, the street value of the seized substances exceeds 65 million forints. Officers from the Anti-Drug Crime Division are treating the pair as suspects in drug trafficking. They have been detained and brought before the court.
