A 43-year-old suspect living near Gyöngyösmellék illegally traded antlers and trophies with a combined value exceeding 23 million forints. The Szigetvár Police Captaincy has already transferred the case to the prosecution.
More than 200 hunting trophies seized in case of Baranya man
The Szigetvár Police Captaincy has completed an investigation into a middle-aged man suspected of unlawfully trading in hunting memorabilia. The 43-year-old suspect, living in the vicinity of Gyöngyösmellék, was authorised to collect antlers on the basis of his permit, but according to the authorities, he used this opportunity to purchase horns and trophies from individuals who did not have the necessary authorisation.
The man then sold the purchased goods at a profit to hunting associations. During the investigation, it emerged that the suspect also possessed hunting trophies that he was not authorised to retain.
Police conducted house searches at properties linked to the man. As a result of the search, more than two hundred antlers and trophies in total were found and seized. An expert examination established that the market value of the seized items exceeded 23 million forints.
During questioning, the suspect admitted that he was aware that the hunting memorabilia he had acquired were not of lawful origin.
The police carried out the necessary procedural steps and subsequently forwarded the case file with an indictment to the prosecution service.
