A Budapest hospitality venue owner, facing more than 22 million forints in gambling debts, decided to settle accounts with his creditors by hiring armed men. Four armed individuals were tasked with the job, and one victim was seriously injured in the attack.

The Budapest Chief Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against seven Vietnamese nationals accused of carrying out a knife attack on three creditors near a Budapest hospitality venue in February 2025.
The 46-year-old injured man operated a restaurant in Budapest, but due to a gambling addiction had accumulated more than 22 million forints in debt. He owed this sum to three fellow countrymen. Unable to settle his finances, he decided to resolve the claims by physical means.
He persuaded four men to commit the crime, who arrived at the scene dressed in black clothing, face-covering masks, and carrying machetes. He lured the victims into a trap by claiming he would settle his debts.
During the meeting, the restaurant manager demanded that one of the creditors pay the amounts owed to the others on his behalf. When the man refused, the defendant threatened him with death and then called over his associates who were hiding nearby.
Three contract killers escorted the victim out of the building, who began to flee upon hearing the threat. The knife was brought down on the fleeing man's back, but his thick winter coat protected him from serious injury. The pursuers were unable to catch him.
The man who hired them then ordered the returning men to kill the two other creditors waiting on the terrace and their companions. Most of those attacked managed to escape, but one was stabbed by three attackers and suffered life-threatening injuries.
A local chef joined the pursuit with a kitchen knife in hand, then returned and continued cooking. Security cameras recorded the violence.
A few days later, the first victim to escape was threatened and assaulted by two acquaintances of the defendant—who had not taken part in the attack.
The Budapest Chief Prosecutor's Office filed the indictment for attempted premeditated murder affecting multiple victims and attempted grievous bodily harm. The prosecution has recommended custodial prison sentences and deportation for the defendants, six of whom are in enforced custody.
