Law enforcement and intelligence services warn: fraud cases may increase in the coming period as criminals exploit personal data stolen from the Registry Centre.

Whilst investigating data theft from the Registry Centre, police, intelligence and cyber security institutions issued a joint warning to residents to protect themselves against potential increased fraud.
Specialists note that criminals may exploit stolen personal data in order to gain trust. A caller who knows a person's name, surname, personal identification code, address or other personal information does not necessarily mean they represent a legitimate institution.
"The fact alone that a caller knows your information does not mean they are from a real institution," states a message from the institutions, quoted by 15min.lt.
Residents are urged to be cautious and not to trust solely on the grounds that the interlocutor possesses genuine personal information. Fraudsters may impersonate bank employees, civil servants or other individuals.
Law enforcement continues its investigation into the data breach from the Registry Centre and urges residents to report any suspicious calls or attempts to extort money.
