The court has decided to extend the sentences of two convicts held behind bars in the capital's detention facility. Each of them has been ordered to serve an additional 45 days of arrest.
R. D., aged thirty, and his younger brother M. D., aged twenty-six, received this sentence because they possessed psychoactive substances. These were discovered in May when officers conducted a search of their cell. It was found that the men concealed tobacco laced with a synthetic substance from the cannabinoid group in the toilet area.
From early spring until the beginning of May, only the two brothers lived in this cell. Only detention facility staff and prisoners working there could gain access to it, so the court is confident that the prohibited substances belonged to these convicts.
Both men claimed in court to be innocent. Despite their position, judges found no grounds to doubt that the psychoactive substances belonged to both of them.
M. D. was previously convicted of homicide, and both brothers have additional convictions for violent crimes, theft of property, and unlawful possession of narcotics. When the new sentence is added to the previously imposed sentence, the younger brother will spend more than six years behind bars.
This verdict has not yet become final – the parties may appeal it to a higher court.
