According to la.lv, a man born in 1992 has been detained in Valmiera on suspicion of attacking a woman and attempting to steal her handbag.
The incident occurred on 22 October between 20:35 and 20:40 on Meža Street, where the man attempted to forcibly snatch a handbag from a woman's left shoulder on the pavement. Following the incident, the woman called 112 and reported the attack.
During the investigation, law enforcement officers identified the suspected perpetrator and detained him on the morning of 28 October. The man had previously come to the attention of police. A court will rule on the application of security measures in the near future.
The State Police indicate that Valmiera residents have no reason for concern — the suspected perpetrator has been detained and no similar incidents have been registered with the State Police to date. Law enforcement continues to clarify the circumstances of the incident and urges anyone with information useful to the investigation or who has been subjected to similar actions by the man to call 112.
