According to la.lv, a foreign unmanned aerial vehicle was discovered on Saturday in a forest in Liepna parish of Alūksne district. The State Police received information on Saturday morning about possible debris from an unmanned aerial vehicle in a remote forest area — upon arriving at the scene, the information was confirmed.
Interior Minister Jānis Dombrava (NA) praised the State Police's work on his X account, noting that it had done an excellent job by continuing to listen to information provided by residents. "The police did excellent work in finding the drone in Liepna parish. They continued to listen to information provided by residents and found what is possibly a drone that crashed several days ago," wrote Dombrava. The minister called on residents to remain vigilant in future and report useful information to the authorities.
Eduards Voilaks, head of buildings and managed territory in Liepna parish, informed the LETA news agency that he had been informed about an explosion, as local residents had previously reported it.
The Armed Forces stress that the war in Ukraine started by Russia and the related military activities continue to create security risks in the region. Electronic warfare equipment used by Russia can affect the operation of unmanned aerial vehicles' communication and navigation systems, so the recurrence of similar incidents cannot be ruled out — when foreign unmanned aerial vehicles approach Latvian airspace or enter it.
The National Armed Forces (NBS) have announced that they continue to monitor Latvian airspace and cooperate with responsible state institutions in order to identify possible threats in good time and respond accordingly.
