In June of this year, in the vicinity of Paderewski and Podgórna streets in Łódź, there were assaults on older women. Officers from the criminal division of the VIII Police Station in Łódź detained a 34-year-old man suspected of these crimes.

The perpetrator approached unsuspecting pensioners and forcibly snatched chain necklaces from their necks, then disappeared from the scene. In one of two documented instances, a 74-year-old woman was grabbed by the throat, choked and pressed against a wall. The attacker acted according to the same pattern in both cases.

Police officers, based on a description of his appearance, analysis of his modus operandi and surveillance camera footage, linked the perpetrator to a previously known 34-year-old. On 30 June, officers appeared at his flat. The detainee was shocked at how quickly he had been found.

The man was charged with robbery and theft in a particularly brazen manner. The Penal Code provides for sentences of up to 15 years' imprisonment for these crimes. Because of his return to crime following a prior conviction, the court may apply a higher sentence. At the request of the prosecutor, the man was remanded in custody for three months.
