A charge sheet has been filed in a high-profile corruption case from Wrocław. The psychiatrist allegedly illegally issued prescriptions for opioids, psychoactive and psychotropic substances to people who in no way required such treatment.
Arrests were carried out in the middle of this year. Officers from the anti-corruption unit of the provincial police headquarters detained the doctor and a woman who allegedly paid for obtaining documents enabling the purchase of narcotic substances. According to operational findings, prescriptions for nearly two hundred thousand pills were produced as part of this activity. During searches and seizures, officers also found cash totalling over one hundred and sixty thousand zloty.
The doctor was charged with accepting financial benefits and trafficking in a large quantity of prohibited substances. The woman faces charges of paying bribes and aiding and abetting in a crime. In total, the pair faced more than six thousand seven hundred counts of charges related to corruption.
During the proceedings, the doctor was held in pre-trial detention for eight months. Both now risk up to twelve years in prison.
