A Russian cartoonist known for his opposition to Vladimir Putin was murdered in Poland, with two Belarusians being arrested in connection with the case. The events were announced by the Polish prosecutor's office and police, according to Efimerida ton Syntakton.
The victim, Robert Kuznetsoff, 44, was widely known under the artistic pseudonym Semyon Skrepetski. A prosecutor's office spokesperson announced that he was shot at close range and killed in Biała Podlaska.
Three days before his murder, Skrepetski was in Berlin on the eve of Russia Day, on 12 June. There he carried out a protest holding a caricature depicting Joseph Stalin alongside Putin, according to the independent news outlet Meduza.
The prosecutor emphasised that the victim's identity and public activities would be central elements in the course of the investigation.
In a broader context, Poland maintains that its role as a key transit point for military aid to Ukraine has made it a target of Russian intelligence networks. According to Polish authorities, these activities range from gathering information about Western support for Kyiv to potential sabotage operations.
Jacek Dobrzynski, a spokesperson for the minister overseeing Polish secret services, stated that the Internal Security Agency is cooperating with police and prosecutorial authorities to investigate the case.
The motive for the murder has not yet been announced by the authorities, who are continuing their investigation.
