The Court of Appeal in Gdańsk upheld a life sentence for Tomasz K. The convicted man killed his wife and subsequently attempted to conceal the crime as a railway accident.

In Gdańsk, a second-instance court has definitively imposed a life sentence on thirty-six-year-old Tomasz K. The man killed his wife Jolanta and then attempted to disguise the crime as an accident on the tracks in Mężowo in Kashubia – according to TVP Gdańsk.
In the original ruling from December 2025, the district court found him guilty of murder, causing a road disaster, and damaging another's property. He was then sentenced to twenty-six years in prison.
The victim's family and the public prosecutor did not accept such a lenient sentence. An appeal was filed demanding the most severe possible penalty. The higher court found these arguments valid and changed the sentence to life imprisonment.
Behind the murder lay the convicted man's inability to accept the end of his marriage.
During the preparatory proceedings and trial before the first-instance court, the accused admitted to committing the murder, although – as the judges noted – he minimised his own responsibility.
The sentence also includes compensation for the deceased's relatives. Her parents, Danuta and Jerzy B., will each receive one hundred fifty thousand złoty. For the victim's siblings – Beata, Kacper, Jacek and Marek B. – one hundred thousand złoty each was awarded.
Tomasz K. is currently held in a correctional facility where he is serving the imposed sentence.
