Investigators confirmed irregularities at Southern Hospital: someone falsified 20 documents authorising the issue of death certificates. A second investigation into illegal recording in the prosectorium office was closed without charges being filed.

Since January 2023, the Warsaw regional prosecution office has been conducting 32 cases, two of which involved the activities of the prosectorium at Southern Hospital, revealed regional spokesman Piotr Antoni Skiba.
In the first case, there is suspicion of forgery of twenty documents used for registering deaths. Law enforcement authorities requested the securing of originals from civil registry archives. As the spokesman explained, these are purely administrative documents, not part of a patient's medical history; copies are held at the medical facility. The investigation remains open, and no person has yet been charged.
The second case involved placing a recording device in an office room of the prosectorium where relatives collected bodies and documentation. Officers quickly located the equipment, but it turned out that it had not recorded any conversations. Since no evidence of a criminal offence was found and the employee who could have been under surveillance did not request prosecution, proceedings were discontinued this month.
In the context of reports about wiretapping, there were also claims that hospital staff had recommended a specific funeral company to families. Interviewed witnesses, including those employed at the prosectorium, stated that such actions are prohibited. The prosecution spokesman said that no evidence of such practices had been found.
Analysis of materials is still under way to determine whether there was any unauthorised distribution of images of the deceased or human remains – these allegations were previously unknown to law enforcement authorities. Underlying the entire affair is a conflict between two former employees of the prosectorium.
