Warsaw's prosecution service decided to release journalist Leszek Kraskowski from pre-trial detention. In exchange, a series of restrictions were imposed on him.

Leszek Kraskowski has left custody. The decision to lift the detention measure was made by the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw on 3 July. The journalist had been in custody since mid-June.
To regain his freedom, the man had to meet several conditions. The most important was a monetary security deposit of 25,000 zlotys. The funds were transferred to the prosecution's account by Tomasz Sakiewicz, head of the editorial board of Telewizja Republika.
Kraskowski was also subject to other restrictions. He must report to the police station in Ursynów once a week – the obligation applies twice within seven days. He is not permitted to contact persons who may testify in his case. A ban on approaching the alleged victim applies within a radius of one hundred metres, with the exception of situations where he participates in proceedings conducted by the police, prosecution or judiciary. Additionally, he has lost his passport and cannot travel abroad.
According to the investigation, further detention of the suspect in a penal institution is no longer necessary. At the same time, officials emphasised that the gathered evidence still indicates that the journalist committed abuse of a close person – both in physical and psychological terms. The suspect is also charged with illegal possession of a gas weapon.
However, the prosecution has concerns about threats sent electronically to the head of the Piaseczno police headquarters. Investigators acknowledge that at present they cannot rule out that the message was sent by someone else. Computer analysis of equipment belonging to the defendant's wife and her new partner showed no connection to that letter.
The prosecution did, however, maintain other preventive measures due to the risk that Kraskowski might attempt to influence persons testifying in the abuse case. Witness statements are of key importance for establishing the scope of criminal liability and the period in which the alleged acts took place.
