A former department head from South Hospital in Warsaw appeared before prosecutors on Wednesday but provided no answers to the questions posed. Emil Jędrzejewski, who in an interview with a television station accused the facility of endangering patients' lives, demanded the presence of legal representation at his questioning.
"The witness informed us that he does not intend to provide explanations without the participation of a lawyer. He explained that so far he has been unable to appoint a defence counsel, made a brief statement about his inability to give evidence and requested that the hearing be postponed. The officers conducting two ongoing investigations informed him that an adjournment is not possible because he possesses key information in both cases, which he himself communicated publicly in a television programme recording," said the spokesperson for the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba, cited by Interia.
However, Jędrzejewski provided investigators with a note containing the full details of two individuals who, in his view, suffered as a result of the hospital's actions. "He submitted a note containing the names of the injured parties together with their PESEL numbers. He stated that his knowledge concerns precisely these two individuals," prosecutor Skiba added.
The spokesperson emphasised that if someone publicly makes serious allegations concerning crimes against life and health, they should possess not only documentation but above all memory of the events. At the same time, he noted that in none of the investigations conducted so far concerning deaths at the hospital's emergency department has the name Dawid K., the doctor indicated by Jędrzejewski as responsible for the irregularities, appeared.
The questioning of the Mayor of Warsaw is also planned in this case. "We confirmed that the president of the capital city is a person designated for questioning. I believe this will take place in the coming weeks," said prosecutor Skiba.
Jędrzejewski's questioning will resume on Monday at 9:00 a.m.
