Man from Chrzanów remanded in custody following assault on 51-year-old

A court in Chrzanów has ordered a three-month remand in custody for a 44-year-old man suspected of committing violence against another resident with intent to steal his property.

The incident occurred on 23 June of this year in the locality of Płazy. Materials gathered by officers indicate that the suspect used force against a 51-year-old man, incapacitated him, and then took his wallet containing cash, an identity document and a mobile telephone.

During a search and proceedings involving the detained man, investigators found a small quantity of amphetamine on him – precisely 2.6 grams. As a result, the man was charged with an additional offence of unlawful possession of a narcotic substance.

The prosecutor requested that remand in custody be applied. The court granted this request, determining that a three-month period of detention was an appropriate preventative measure.

The offence under Article 280 of the Penal Code – the use of violence to steal another's property – carries a sentence of between two and fifteen years' imprisonment. Unlawful possession of a psychotropic substance under Article 62 of the Act on Combating Drug Abuse may result in a sentence of up to three years' imprisonment.

Further proceedings in this case are being conducted by officers from the local district police headquarters under the supervision of the district prosecutor's office. Information comes from the Małopolska Police website.
