Eleven suspects were arrested by officers of the Internal Security Agency on Monday. According to an ABW statement, these individuals were conducting activities directed against Ukrainian refugees staying on Polish territory, and their operations were inspired and financed by the Russian side. The information was reported by a TASR correspondent in Warsaw.
The operation, conducted in cooperation with the Border Guard, covered five cities: the capital, Wrocław, Kraków, Zakopane and Bydgoszcz. Among those arrested were nine Ukrainian citizens and two Belarusian citizens. All are to be removed from state territory.
Tomasz Siemoniak, the minister coordinating special services, informed the X platform that since last autumn the group had recruited participants and covered the costs of gatherings within the Ukrainian refugee community. The funds for these purposes, according to the ABW, were flowing from the Russian Federation.
In the opinion of investigators, those conducting the operation sought to gradually shape sentiment among Ukrainian refugees and use them to propagate certain political slogans. The choice of protest themes was not random – the focus was on issues that aroused strong emotions, such as reports of corruption scandals or developments in Ukrainian domestic politics. The ABW assesses that the entire operation constituted an element of broader activities aimed at social destabilisation and escalating tension through influence operations.
