On Monday, 24 June, a serious incident occurred in Świebodzin. A 37-year-old man shot another resident of the town with a black powder firearm and subsequently attempted to cover up evidence of the crime. Officers detained the assailant on the same day.
In the evening, police received a report from residents about two loud bangs resembling gunshots. A patrol was immediately dispatched to the area where the sounds had been heard. At the scene, officers found a trailer with visible bullet holes. Nearby lay a bloodied man with a gunshot wound. Medical responders transported the injured man to hospital.
An alarm was raised at the police station. Criminal investigators, forensic technicians and other officers were mobilised. Thanks to swift analysis and coordination, the identity of the alleged perpetrator was established. Immediate search operations were launched.
The suspect was apprehended several hours later. During the course of further actions, the firearm that the 37-year-old had managed to hide was also recovered.
The gathered evidence was sent to the District Prosecutor's Office in Świebodzin. Investigators filed a request with the court to apply a preventive measure in the form of temporary remand in custody. The court granted the motion and ordered the suspect held in remand for three months. He faces a sentence of not less than ten years imprisonment.
