Public Prosecutor's Office: 32 proceedings related to Southern Hospital, including 12 concerning deaths
Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek disclosed during a press conference on 24 June that a total of 32 investigations are being conducted into Warsaw's Southern Hospital. Of this number, twelve cases concern the deaths of patients that occurred since 2023.
The head of the prosecutor's office presented a detailed breakdown of these proceedings. In three instances, decisions were made to refuse to initiate an investigation. Four others were discontinued. Five cases are still being pursued.
With regard to the Hospital Emergency Department, Żurek indicated that five proceedings were being conducted there concerning endangering people to direct risk of loss of life or health. Four of them have already been concluded – three with refusals to initiate investigations and one with discontinuation. One case remains open.
The minister announced that proceedings that were concluded with discontinuations will also be analysed anew. This decision is connected with reports from whistleblower Dr Emil Jędrzejewski, who in recent days publicly disclosed information about alleged irregularities at the facility.
Jędrzejewski, a former head of the surgery department, appeared at the prosecutor's office on Wednesday at 12 o'clock for questioning. Żurek noted that the doctor's statements were very general and did not indicate specific cases or individuals. The justice minister also received a letter from the President of Warsaw requesting urgent action in this matter.
