Customs officials stopped a van containing over 60 kg of unpolished amber concealed in the vehicle's walls. The contraband is worth more than 245,000 zlotys.

During a roadside inspection, customs officers scanned the van using X-ray equipment. In the vehicle's walls, they discovered compartments filled with bags of raw amber.
In total, almost 62 kilograms of stones were seized. The estimated value of the smuggled goods is over 245,000 zlotys. According to KAS, potential losses from unpaid VAT amount to 56,000 zlotys.
A 39-year-old was behind the wheel. Proceedings were initiated against him for a fiscal crime under the supervision of the Subcarpathian Customs and Tax Office in Przemyśl. Also seized were 30,000 zlotys towards a future fine.
Officials remind that the grey market in amber trading harms the interests of legitimate jewellery and processing companies, and also deprives the state treasury of due tax revenues.
