The prosecution has appealed a final acquittal verdict of a man accused of murdering a young woman and removing her skin in Kraków in the 1990s.

On Thursday in Warsaw, a hearing will take place before the Supreme Court in one of the most shocking criminal cases of recent decades. Prosecutors are demanding that a final judgment be overturned, which acquitted Robert J. of charges of murdering a female student and removing her skin — an act committed in Kraków over two decades ago.
In October of last year, a court of second instance upheld the acquittal. Judge Marek Długosz explained at the time that the decision did not mean conviction of the accused's innocence, but rather a lack of certainty regarding guilt as required by procedural law.
Meanwhile, Robert J. himself has already initiated separate civil proceedings, demanding millions of zlotys in compensation from the state for years spent in detention and on trial.
