An unknown perpetrator on Monday shortly before ten o'clock on a street near a car park in Białá Podlaska fired multiple shots at close range at a 44-year-old man, a Russian citizen. The perpetrator fled the scene. Police secured roads in the area and conducted a search of the terrain.
After approximately five hours, authorities identified the victim. According to the Russian Telegram channel Astra, the victim is satirical artist and comedian Semyon Skrepieckiy. He was known for caricatures of prominent politicians, including Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Chechen ruler Ramzan Kadyrov and Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko. In 2021 he emigrated to Poland, according to his own account due to political persecution.
According to the Agentstvo channel, the perpetrator approached the artist and fired multiple shots at close range. The suspect was later detained near the Belarusian consulate.
Polish authorities are investigating the case as a possible premeditated crime. "If someone approaches a specific person on the street and shoots, everything indicates that he planned to kill them. However, we still do not know the suspect's motives, what prompted him to do this," said Andrzej Fijołek of the Provincial Police Command in Lublin to TVN24 station.
