A Russian action artist and caricaturist with the pseudonym Semyon Skirpetski was shot dead on an open street in Biała Podlaska. Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the killing.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the detained man was in possession of a Georgian passport and may have been involved in the murder. The arrest was carried out by the police of the Lublin Voivodeship and the Polish Internal Security Agency (ABW). The detention took place near Warsaw, in a workers' hostel in Piasów. According to RMF Radio, anti-terrorism forces were involved in the operation. There are indications that the detained man's passport is forged; he may be Chechen.
The artist was killed on Monday with five shots. On Wednesday, Tusk stated that much suggests a politically motivated murder, although further evidence must be awaited. If Russia were involved in the killing, it would be a case of state terrorism, he added.
Previously, two men from Belarus were temporarily arrested, but were released due to lack of evidence of involvement in the crime.
