Polish activist Kaja Kojder-Demska disappears near Belarusian border
Polish police are searching for 45-year-old Kaja Kojder-Demska. The woman disappeared on Monday, 29 June, in the town of Gródek in Podlaskie Voivodeship, near the border with Belarus.
According to a statement from the Sokółka police commission, on that day at approximately 12:30 the activist left her place of residence in Krynki municipality in a silver Fiat Punto car (registration number FZ6628V). She was last seen just before 13:00 in a shop in Gródek. Since then, she has been unable to be reached.
The missing woman is approximately 165 cm tall and weighs approximately 90 kg. She has brown hair and wears corrective glasses. On the day of her disappearance, she was wearing a loose black dress, dark sports shoes, and a black waist bag. Distinguishing marks include two colourful botanical tattoos: one on the left collarbone and another on the left shoulder.
The woman's mobile telephone is currently unreachable. The vehicle in which she left has also not been found.
Police appeal to all persons who may have seen the missing woman or the vehicle she was travelling in on the afternoon of 29 June, as well as those who have information that could help establish her location, to contact the emergency number 112, the Sokółka police commission, or the nearest police station.
Kaja Kojder-Demska is an anthropologist and academic lecturer. For many years, she has been engaged in humanitarian activity on the Polish-Belarusian borderland – she is one of the activists of the "Granica" initiative, which provides assistance to migrants and people seeking asylum.
The search is proceeding in difficult atmospheric conditions. In recent days, temperatures in the region have exceeded 30 degrees Celsius, which additionally raises concerns for the safety of the missing woman.
