Polish police have arrested a 36-year-old man holding a Georgian passport in connection with the murder of Semion Skrepeckiy, a critic of Putin and Kadyrov. The killing appeared to have the character of an execution.

On Thursday morning, officers of the Polish police detained a 36-year-old man using a Georgian passport at a hostel near Warsaw. At a joint press conference, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński and Minister Coordinating Special Services Tomasz Siemoniak announced that the detained man has links to organised crime. According to Kierwiński, the man may also have participated in other crimes committed in 2022.
Skrepeckiy was shot at close range. As a police officer recounted to the Onet portal, the perpetrator fired several shots, followed by one well-aimed shot, which looked like an execution. Despite resuscitation efforts, the victim could not be saved.
Minister Siemoniak explained that the murdered man had criticised foreign public figures in his public activities, including Vladimir Putin and Ramzan Kadyrov. Polish security services repeatedly offered him protection during his stay in Poland, but the man refused. The Internal Security Agency and police appealed to him several times, pointing out the threat to his life.
According to Minister Siemoniak, investigators are working on the hypothesis that Russian special services may have ordered the murder. As he noted, such contract killings had occurred in recent years in other European countries as well, and the evidence gathered pointed to Russian origin. However, the prosecution does not rule out other motives for the perpetrator's actions.
